Education

Christian Formation in the Episcopal Church is lifelong growth in the knowledge, service and love of God as followers of Christ.  Christian formation is present in many different forms and is a vital and growing part of St. Thomas’ involving parishioners of all ages.

Bible Study

St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church Towson offers short-term Bible study groups periodically at various times and days most convenient for the participants.

Our Advent Bible study groups met for four consecutive weeks, one on Sunday mornings before the service and one on Monday evenings, using the book “The Greatest Gift” by Ann Voskamp.  If you’re interested in joining us for the next Bible study group, contact the Rev. Loree Penner or Jeanne Windsor for more information.

Education for Ministry (EfM)

EfM is a program for lay people who want to know more about the Christian faith and the basis for their beliefs.  It also provides a background for lay people to discover and carry out their own ministry to the world.  Over a 4-year period, participants in EfM study the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, Church History through the Reformation, and Modern Church History and Theology.

EfM is an intensive study of scripture coupled with theological reflection in a small group setting. Through reflection on themes from the readings and daily life, the group deepens its relationship with one another and with God. EfM is designed so that one may be come known both to God and to a particular group of God’s people.

EfM is a four-year course with a set curriculum. Each year begins in the fall and continues through June. EfM is not only a Bible study, but also a small group in which close friendships are begun and cultivated. Consider joining us – we would love to have you.
