Baptisms, Weddings & Funerals

The Reverend Loree Penner at the baptismal font at the front of the church with a group of children. Our Book of Common Prayer defines Holy Baptism as “full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.”   (p. 298, BCP)

Through baptism we enter into the life of Christ, and are invited to participate in all activities of the church, including receiving Holy Eucharist.   Traditionally, many parents have their children baptized as infants; however, baptism can take place at any age.

The Sacrament of Baptism is a rite meant to be celebrated in the midst of the community; therefore we do not do private baptisms at St. Thomas’.  Baptisms occur on four feast days during the year:  the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord in January, the Vigil of Easter or Easter Sunday, Pentecost, and All Saints’ Day.  Baptism may also occur when our Bishop makes his yearly visitation.

If you are interested in knowing more about baptism, please speak to Rev. Loree.

This section is currently under development. In the meantime, if you are interested in having your wedding ceremony at St. Thomas’, please contact the Rector at stthomastowson@gmail.com or 410-821-5489.

In the Episcopal Church, the funeral liturgy is an Easter liturgy.  We gather together to mourn, but at the same time we remember that our hope is in resurrection.   We pray for those who have died in the belief that they now stand with the great cloud of witnesses and are with our Lord.

There are many options for burial available today.  Part of our service is a committal of the body to its final resting place, whether that is in the ground, or in a memorial wall.  At St. Thomas’, we have a columbarium in which the ashes of the deceased can be placed.

If you are interested in knowing more about funerals at St. Thomas’ or our columbarium, please contact the parish office at stthomastowson@gmail.com or 410-821-5489.
