Christian Stitchin' - Prayer Shawl Ministry

On the third Saturday of each month, a dedicated group of knitters, crocheters and other needle workers meet at St. Thomas’ to use their talents to create prayer shawls to be given to members of the parish and the community in need of comfort, healing and peace.  These shawls are blessed by the Rector at a Sunday service and distributed free of charge to anyone who requests one, carrying the prayers and good wishes of the people of St. Thomas’ to the recipients.

The reverend Loree Penner blesses a box of knitted and crocheted scarves to be given to Meals on Wheels receipients.

Each year the group, in partnership with  Meals on Wheels (which uses St. Thomas’ as a distribution site), also makes hundreds of warm scarves that Meals on Wheels gives to home bound, sick and elderly clients.  These are also blessed by the Rector and prayed over by the congregation before they go to their recipients.

Our stitchers also makes hats, scarves and other knitted and crocheted items that are available at the annual St. Thomas’ Christmas Bazaar.  Shoppers can purchase items for themselves or choose to donate that item to Paul’s Place, a Baltimore City non-profit that provides hot meals and other services to improve the quality of life in their community.

Christian Stitchin’ is always looking for new crafters to join its ministry and they’re happy to teach anyone who is interested in helping.  Please feel welcome to drop by any third Saturday between 10 am and noon.

If you or someone you know and love could benefit from the comfort of a prayer shawl, contact the Church Office at 410-821-5489 or stthomastowson@gmail.com.
