I Love This Time of Year

It is a gorgeous fall day outside. Lovely to have weather back in the 50’s after our dip into the 30’s over the weekend. I love this time of year. This is the last week before the “Holiday Season” begins with Thanksgiving, and the weeks ahead are filled with activities! First I must mention that we are having a Thanksgiving Eve service one week from today, at 7:30 pm. We haven’t done one for a few years. We hope you will come and take a break from Thanksgiving preparations – an hour to reconnect with God and rest in God’s presence. If you need a ride, call Jill in the office. We will be glad to make sure you are able to be there.

The Bazaar is coming up in two weeks. Some cookies are being made, crafts created, hats knitted, greenery ordered, and all will be ready when people come on December 2nd. Vicki found a creative solution to cookie making this year by working with our Boy Scout troop, other troops, and church volunteers. While there won’t be as many cookies to sell, I know many people will be glad to have them this year. Candy making will take place at the usual time, the two days after Thanksgiving.

We have a labyrinth in progress! If you’re not sure what that is, the labyrinth is an ancient form of prayer and meditation that follows a path, and symbolizes our spiritual journey. A labyrinth is different from a maze – you can’t get lost in a labyrinth. It has a clear path with twists and turns – you may think you are getting to your goal – the center of the labyrinth – and then a turn will take you to the outside again. Like our own spiritual journeys, we are drawn closer to God, only to find a turn in our path that draws us away. Eventually we find our true Center, which is intimacy with God. Check out the labyrinth, located behind the collumbarium, on Sunday.

And finally, if you are a fan of the movie “Its a Wonderful Life,” Third Wall Productions will be offering a musical version on Dec 8-10 and 14-16. Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00, and Sundays at 4:00.

Grant me, O Lord, heavenly wisdom,
