It is good to be back at St. Tom’s, although I had a WONDERFUL sabbatical. The word Sabbatical comes from the same root as Sabbath, and it is meant to be a time away to renew and refresh, just as our own weekly Sabbath day is meant to do the same. I have come back renewed and refreshed, and thankful for the opportunity Steve and I had to travel, see good friends, and rest this summer.
Tomorrow is the first day of September, and after our long weekend many of our young people and adults will be returning to their classrooms. Please pray for them as they make this transition. I remember what it was like to return to teaching after the summer – it can take a while to get back the energy needed for classroom teaching! Pray also for our resident Principal, Wendy Cunningham, as her schedule changes from summer work to a filled school.
Over the next few weeks, I will be preaching about Moses, who is front and center in our Old Testament readings. The story of Moses has a lot to tell us about our own relationship with God, and about the redemption of this world that continues to unfold.
Finally, if you are planning on joining EfM this year, please let Jill know – we need you to register THIS WEEK so that we can order the books we will be reading. For more information, see Amy Shimonkevitz or Steve Penner this weekend.
For those of you who travel this weekend, may you have a blessed journey, and enjoy the last official weekend of summer vacation!
