I am working from home today, preparing for our Confirmation service in March. It seems a long way off, doesn’t it? But between then and now I will need to meet with Bishop Chilton Knudsen with a bulletin in hand, so that she can see what music and prayers are part of our intended service. The Confirmation service itself is found in the Book of Common Prayer, so it is a matter of adding hymns, anthems and prayers.
Today I will also be working on our sermon series for Lent, entitled “Confronted by the Cross.” We will also have two guest preachers in Lent: on February 25, Laurie Taylor Mitchell from Loch Raven Network will be our guest, speaking about poverty among students in Baltimore County Schools. And on March 18, the Bishop will be here for Confirmation.
Last night Steve and I ran the concessions table at Third Wall Production’s “The Music Man.” It was a great show – wonderful music, good acting, great sets – I encourage you to go and see it. Its amazing what the theater can do with such a small space. We had fun yesterday morning improvising around the set, using the small altar down in front of the chancel, with Chon playing the church’s keyboard rather than piano. It all worked out just fine, and we will do it again next weekend, as the play continues. There is never a dull moment these days at St. Tom’s!
This Week at St. Thomas
Efm on Tuesday evening, the Wardens’ meeting with our new Wardens, Diane Flayhart and Sharon Greenbeck, will take place on Thursday. Choir practice Thursday evening, and “The Music Man” on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm, and Sunday at 4:00 pm.
Holy God, your knowledge of me exceeds what I grasp or see in any moment; you know me better than I know myself. Now, help me to trust in your mercy, to see myself in the light of your holiness, and grant me the grace that I may have true contrition, make an honest confession, and find in you forgiveness and perfect remission. Amen.
